High Maintenance Candle at the Black Candle Maker's Club

Recap of the Black Candle Maker's Club Midwest Conference 2024

Check out my recap of the Midwest Conference for the Black Candle Maker's Club.

A Candle Maker's Dream

The Black Candle Maker's Club Midwest Conference proved to be everything I could imagine plus more. I've been following these ladies for quite some time, and I knew that we were in for a treat. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with such warm energy. The music was going, the drinks were flowing and the energy was high.

The check-in process was a breeze. I was given a badge with my picture and company name on it, as well as a program detailing all the events for the weekend. We were even given a networking sheet with all the candle makers, their brands, and where they're located which made it easier for us to follow up with people after the conference.

What really stole the show were the goody bags provided to us! It was filled with so much, including sample fragrance oils, BCMC T-Shirt (worn on day 2), candle packaging and accessories, snacks, and so much more. To be honest, I don't think I've ever gotten a swag bag from a conference that had that many items in it. It felt like a VIP experience.

The first day was filled wit networking, games, and an opening welcome from the BCMC team and speaker, Malaysia Harrell (@malaysiahharrell). She was amazing, and really got us motivated for what would become an amazing weekend in Columbus, OH.

A Lineup of Exceptional Speakers

Saturday was the first full day, which started with breakfast, followed by the speaker series, and then finally the Candle Ball later that evening. The speakers at the conference blew me away. Each story was so inspiring. Not to mention, they were very comfortable and open with the crowd. We were able to ask questions and engage in a very informal, yet professional way.

Each speaker also did giveaways from one-on-one coaching sessions, cash infusions, and memberships to their platforms. Again, this was something completely unexpected. The speakers poured a lot into us just as much as the BCMC team.

The speakers included:

- Jazmin Elon (Blk Sunflower)

- Kim Braud (Fleurty Wick)

- Teri Johnson (Harlem Candle Co.)

- Shan Greggs (Simply Scents Candle Co.)

- Raffi Arslanian (Thompson Ferrier NYC)

I wish I could say I had a favorite speaker, but the truth is they all were amazing.

I also met Kathy Lanier of Renegade Candles and The National Candle Association. We were able to connect post conference since we’re both here in the Ohio. Again, another opportunity received through BCMC.

Networking: A Sisterhood of Candle Makers

Personally, I don't know any other candle maker's other than myself, so it was so nice getting to know other people that share the same passion as me. While the speakers were certainly a highlight, one thing I've learned in business is that networking with your peers is equally important. The support, insights, and tips I gathered from these ladies was truly invaluable. What I loved the most is how genuine it was. It felt like a true sisterhood. There was no competition, and everyone wanted to see each other succeed.

The Candle Ball, which was Harlem Renaissance Themed, was another highlight and a way for all the ladies let loose and enjoy each other's presence. They had live performances, photo booths, and of course more cash infusion prizes. Justin Ruff, who is also a fellow candle maker, put on a stellar performance. Be sure to check out his music and candles.

The winner of the Candle Delirium: Candle Shelf Placement winner was also announced.

A special s/o to my fellow midwestern Sydney Noble and The Noble Brand for winning the contest! So happy for her and well deserved.

Looking Ahead: The Future of The Black Candle Makers Club

If you're wondering if I'll be at the next conference, it is a definite yes. I wasn't sure what to expect but I'm happy that I took that leap of faith and registered. The potential for BCMC is astronomical, as this is the premier group for black candle makers. Between the BCMC committee, members, and their network I have no doubt that the conference and overall organization will continue to grow. I'm looking forward to what's next and how I can contribute to this phenomenal organization.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention that I was a recipient of one of the Cash Infusion prices. A special thanks to Ms. Shon for granting me the ACE reward. A reward that recognizes individuals who continuously shined throughout the conference. According to her, I "I was fully engaged throughout the weekend and brought positive energy." I was definitely caught off guard by this award, especially because I had already gained so much from the weekend. However, it was nice to feel "seen" as I was definitely taking full advantage of this opportunity. It warmed my heart to be acknowledged for that. Thank you Ms. Shon.

Special thanks to everyone on the BCMC team!
